Asia University and AMD Establish “AMD Logic and Computation Lab” in Collaboration with MIT,Forge Partnerships with Industry and Vietnam's FPT University to Advance Semiconductor Development

The unveiling ceremony of Asia University’s “AMD Logic and Computation Lab” was held with Asia University President Jeffrey J.P. Tsai (4th right), AMD Senior Vice President Chee-Shiong Wang (5th right), and representatives from both sides posing for a photo in front of the new lab.
Asai University President Jeffrey J.P. Tsai shared that AU’s dedication to semiconductor education dates back 15 years, when Professor Jian Hsu, one of Taiwan’s first-generation semiconductor talents sent to Silicon Valley for training, launched the university’s Industry-Academia Semiconductor Program. This program has trained over 100 high-level engineers who now work across the globe in companies such as Apple (Germany), Intel (USA), Qualcomm (USA), Synopsys (USA), Arm (UK), TSMC (Taiwan), Nexperia (Germany), Infineon (Germany), Bosch (Germany), Renesas (Japan), and InnoStar (China).
Through strong industry partnerships, AU students in the semiconductor program have interned at leading companies like TSMC, Vanguard International Semiconductor Corporation, Nuvoton Technology, and the Taiwan Semiconductor Research Institute, enabling a seamless transition from academic training to employment. The program boasts a 100% employment rate for its graduates.
Among the program’s outstanding alumni is Hutomo from Indonesia, who is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in nano-MEMS at Technische Universität Braunschweig in Germany. His research has been featured in MIT teaching materials and earned him the European Young Scientist Award. He now leads the emerging Nano Metrology Lab in Germany. Another graduate, Neelam Agarwal from India, is now a senior engineer at Renesas, one of the world’s top microcontroller suppliers.
AU’s semiconductor labs utilize MIT-authorized materials such as Microelectronics and Product Design and Development and have been selected by Taiwan’s Ministry of Economic Affairs as part of the Smart Electronics Academy, earning high praise from the Ministry of Education as a “Highly Recommended” program.
To further support hands-on learning, Jetchip Technologies donated semiconductor testing equipment to AU, establishing an AI Semiconductor Base on campus. AU also partners with Long-Pin Vacuum Technology, a leading vacuum coating equipment manufacturer, and Topco Scientific, a key semiconductor service provider, to drive forward Taiwan’s semiconductor leadership.
In recent years, AU has also launched the AI-Semiconductor Industry-Academia Collaboration Program, forging international partnerships to expand its global reach. A notable agreement was signed with FPT University, supported by Vietnam’s tech giant FPT Corporation. During a visit led by FPT University President Dr. Nguyen Khac Thanh, the two universities signed a joint talent development agreement focused on semiconductor design and smart manufacturing. The FPT delegation expressed great admiration for AU’s facilities and research achievements. This collaboration is expected to nurture highly competitive global talent for both Taiwan and Vietnam.
President Tsai emphasized that AU will continue to strengthen industry-academia integration, expand international cooperation, and advance the development of Taiwan's semiconductor ecosystem.
