Asia University Confers Honorary Doctorate on TSMC Chairman C.C. Wei
Chairman Wei Outlines "AI Robot Brains" and Welcomes AU Students; Semiconductor Program Nurtures Successors for Taiwan's "Silicon Shield"
Asia University (AU) celebrated its 25th anniversary today with the theme "Building on the Past, Creating the Future." The ceremony reached its zenith with the conferral of an Honorary Doctorate upon Dr. C.C. Wei, Chairman of TSMC. The event was attended by distinguished guests from across sectors, marking a historic milestone for the university.
A Legacy of Excellence: Founder Tsai Praises TSMC as an ESG Global Paradigm
The ceremony commenced with a cross-disciplinary performance by the China Medical University Symphony Orchestra. AU President Jeffrey J.P. Tsai reflected on the university's 25-year journey, emphasizing the "A+X" initiative to integrate AI into all disciplines. Founder Chang-Hai Tsai further commended Chairman Wei's leadership, noting that TSMC’s commitment to sustainability—exemplified by the pledge to "purchase as much green energy as available"—sets a global standard for corporate responsibility.
The "Everything AI" Vision: TSMC's 95% Share in Robot "Brains"
In his 30-minute keynote, Chairman Wei shared his humorous "Not Arrogant" leadership philosophy and debunked myths about the industry's work culture. He outlined a future where "Everything AI" will define our lives, particularly in elderly care. "Currently, 95% of the global 'brains' for robots are manufactured by TSMC," he stated confidently, highlighting the critical role of advanced sensors and computing power.
A Landmark Moment for the Semiconductor Program: After the tassel-turning ceremony, Ting-Yi Hsu, President of the Student Association and an incoming graduate researcher in the Semiconductor Laboratory, presented a bouquet to Chairman Wei. While the Bachelor Program in Semiconductor Technology achieved full enrollment in its inaugural year, this is just the starting line. Today, our students moved beyond hearsay; they stood directly before the core of the global industry and found their direction for the future.
Semiconductor Program: Nurturing the Next Generation of Industry Leaders
Chairman Wei’s enthusiastic invitation—"Welcome to join TSMC after graduation!"—resonated deeply with our faculty and students. The program is specifically designed to meet this demand, offering rigorous training from IC design to advanced sensing technologies. By utilizing specialized laboratory spaces and open-source industry tools, we empower students to design and verify the "chip brains" that will power the next era of innovation.
