The winners of the 2025 IIIC International Innovation and Invention Competition have been announced. This international event, which has been held in Taipei since 2010, has now reached its 16th session. Its core focus is on creative ideas related to environmental protection, green energy, medical science, biotechnology, and electronics. This year's competition attracted over 386 outstanding inventions from 13 different countries competing in the same arena. The goal is to enhance global innovation literacy in key fields and serve as a vital platform for international exchange and connection.
Asia University’s Innovative Achievement Shines, Paper Wins Over Judges to Secure Gold
Amidst the fierce competition this year, the professor team from Asia University delivered an outstanding performance. Their paper, "Cost-Effective Liquid-Phase TiO₂ Films: Metal Protection in the Hydrogen Era," co-authored by Jung-Jie Huang, Ying-Rong Ho, Sian-Ming Li, Yao-Ren Xu, and Yun-Shao Cho, won the Gold Medal award for its forward-looking research and practical value.
Solving the Hydrogen Embrittlement Crisis: Anti-Hydrogen Embrittlement Film Extends Metal Lifespan
The award-winning paper proposes an anti-hydrogen embrittlement film, which centrally features a dense titanium dioxide (TiO₂) layer. With the advent of the hydrogen energy era, metals face a serious threat from the penetration of hydrogen atoms. This phenomenon allows external substances to corrode the metal more easily through pores, significantly reducing the metal's strength and ductility, leading to metal fracture, shortened service life, and the potential risk of explosion due to hydrogen leaks. This invention effectively utilizes the film to resist hydrogen-induced damage, thereby extending the lifespan of critical machinery or equipment, which holds significant importance for the development of the hydrogen energy industry.
