Asia University Hosts Screening and Discussion of Semiconductor Documentary A Chip Odyssey
Event Details
Event Overview
On the evening of Wednesday, November 4, 2026, from 18:00 to 21:00, the Asia University Library and the Bachelor Program of Semiconductor jointly hosted a screening of the semiconductor documentary A Chip Odyssey, followed by a panel discussion, in Room I108 on the first floor of the Information and Electrical Engineering Building. Open to all students, faculty, and staff, the event introduced participants to the development of Taiwan semiconductor industry and echoed the program mission of nurturing future talent.
As a hub for learning resources and interdisciplinary exchange, the Library designed this film-centered event around industry history. The Semiconductor Program co-organized from a professional perspective, linking the screening to students academic paths so that viewing became not only a cultural activity but also an entry point to the field. The partnership reflects Asia University commitment to cross-unit collaboration and broader student horizons.
The event was moderated by Prof. Han-Wen Tuan, Associate Professor of the Department of Artificial Intelligence and Director of the University Library, with guest speakers Prof. Jung-Jie Huang, Vice President and Director of the Intelligent Semiconductor Design and Sustainable Manufacturing Research Center, and Prof. Chao-Nan Chen, Associate Professor of the Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering and Dean of General Affairs. Together they shared views spanning policy, industry, and campus learning.

About the Film
Directed by Golden Horse Award-winning documentary filmmaker Hsiao Chu-chen and released in 2025, A Chip Odyssey is a 106-minute feature documentary and the first film to chronicle the history of Taiwan semiconductor industry. The Chinese title evokes the image of mountain-building, mirroring decades of layered growth and the high-stakes choices behind each leap forward.
Featuring interviews with more than 80 key figures — from the first generation of engineers, female production workers, and policy and technology pioneers to young engineers facing today choices — the film shows how Taiwan semiconductor industry grew from nothing into an indispensable link in the global technology supply chain. For students studying semiconductors, it is not only industry history but a vivid lesson in why their field matters.

The Semiconductor Program encourages students to understand the industry across disciplines: beyond technology lie policy, talent, global competition, and social responsibility. Through film and discussion, students place classroom knowledge on a longer historical map and ask where they hope to stand in the supply chain.
Panel Discussion
After the screening, the guest speakers shared reflections with the audience, followed by an open Q and A on industry trends and learning paths. From pivotal moments in industry history to how campus programs connect with practice, the discussion turned viewing into reflection on careers and study routes, and invited students from different colleges to exchange perspectives in one room.
Program
Participants who attended the full three hours are eligible to apply for the Active Learning Scholarship (Category 1, Learning Project Program) and General Education Lecture certification, encouraging students to engage in interdisciplinary learning through action.
Closing
Through the screening and discussion, participants gained a historical perspective on the pivotal role of Taiwan semiconductor industry and a clearer sense of how professional study links to industry development. The Library–Program partnership sets a strong model for industry-awareness activities on campus.
The Bachelor Program of Semiconductor will continue to work with campus partners on film events, talks, and industry visits that broaden students interest, sense of responsibility, and global vision in semiconductor technology.
