Exploring Functional Thin Films
for Sports Materials
Li Chi Industrial and NIKE Designers
Visit Asia University
AI Semiconductor Design and Sustainable Manufacturing Research Center
Representatives from Li Chi Industrial, accompanied by designers from the global sports brand NIKE, recently visited Asia University’s AI Semiconductor Design and Sustainable Manufacturing Research Center. Discussions focused on functional thin-film deposition, materials surface modification, and measurement and analysis techniques. The visit explored the feasibility of applying semiconductor thin-film technologies to sports materials and related product development by connecting academic expertise with industry innovation needs.

Connecting Materials Expertise
with Product Innovation
Li Chi Industrial has long been active in environmentally friendly textiles, thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) films, and functional footwear materials. Through this visit with NIKE designers, the company sought to learn more about thin-film deposition, surface treatment, and materials characterization, and to explore their potential for developing functional materials and improving product performance.
Linking Thin-Film Research to Industry Needs
Asia University’s AI Semiconductor Design and Sustainable Manufacturing Research Center develops research capabilities in semiconductor materials, thin-film processing, and precision measurement and analysis, while promoting interdisciplinary industry–academia collaboration. During the visit, the research team shared its technical expertise and equipment resources. Participants also discussed potential cooperation in coating process development, materials characterization, and technology validation, with the aim of connecting research outcomes with practical industry needs.

Expanding Applications Across Industries
Asia University will continue to strengthen technical exchanges with industry and draw on its expertise in semiconductor thin-film processing and materials analysis to explore applications in textiles, footwear materials, and functional products. These efforts aim to advance interdisciplinary research and create further opportunities for industry–academia collaboration.
